Marinated Chicken Stirfry

Why do I even bother writing up some of our dinners? They are all variations of the same theme, sigh... Always the same ingredients, always the same methods. Each is only slightly different from the next.... Can anyone tell I'm bored??? sigh.... anyway, here you go...

What you need:
3 boneless chicken drumsticks, cut into bite-sized pieces
4 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1/2 tablespoon white pepper
3 shallots, sliced thinly
Cornflour with 1 cup water
Ground white pepper, for seasoning
Sesame oil, for seasoning
Oil, for cooking

What you do:

  1. Marinate the chicken in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil and white pepper for as long as you can, at least half an hour.
  2. Heat some oil in a wok. Fry the shallots until softened. Add the chicken, fry for about 5 minutes until almost cooked.
  3. Add the cornflour (mixed in water) and stir well to combine. Simmer for about 10 minutes, or until ready to serve.
  4. Just before serving, season well with more white pepper and drizzle with sesame oil, if you wish.

Right, my first thought of this dish was ... it smells good! I love the smell of shallots/onions frying, and white pepper reduces me to a sniffing fiend. I LOVE the smell of ground white pepper, even more than black. Perhaps that's why I like cucur ayam so much :D I always insist on having quite a bit of white pepper in it, until I can smell it, ahahaha.

Well, I should be more than happy, because in this dish, Justin put in a whole load of white pepper. It smelled really really good! Really. I can smell white pepper all day. Sometimes I do just that, stick my nose in some white pepper and sniff to my heart's content...

...

I just realised that I'm very very weird... Anyway...

Hadi and Justin downed it down with no problems. I actually found it a bit too spicy. They didn't believe me, since they couldn't taste it, but I'll tell you instead. IT WAS SPICY. One downside of having too much white pepper I guess, but hey, at least it smelled good! Ahahaha. But seriously, it tasted quite nice, especially the gravy (oh, so flavoursome!), if a bit typical Justin - Chinese trying to get away from his roots, but not quite succeeding, I have to say. The marination was a break from routine, but the rest is the same old story.

Give me cucur ayam, anytime! ;) That, I will never tire of. Hehe :D

Quote of the day: It's so beautifully arranged on the plate - you just know someone's fingers have been all over it.

And that is why our food don't look very presentable most times ;) Ahahaha, or we're just lazy :P
